One word by one Man to one woman begins the revelation of all the prophetic words Jesus spoke before His death. Until that moment, His death had been nothing but despair, fear, and confusion.
The tomb was wide open. His linens were lying there. Peter, John, and the other women went back to tell the disciples what had happened. However, Mary Magdalene could not leave that grave site. She sat outside of the tomb just crying away. Jesus had literally changed the trajectory of her life. He gave her hope, purpose, and dignity. Then, He died and now His body was gone. What was she going to do next? I have a feeling her whole life had been full of abandonment and struggle, but with Jesus she had begun to forget those feelings. Now, all those feelings came flooding back with a vengeance.
I can picture her ugly crying in total despair when a man walks up and asks why she is crying. She is despondent and hopeless and begs the man to please give her any clue to where Jesus’ body might be. And He says,
One word. One name. Her name. He said her name and the whole magical story of redemption begins to reveal itself. She knows His voice and looks up. There is the man that rewrote her story looking back at her. Can you imagine the sparkle in Jesus’ eyes and the flat-out shock turned to joy in Mary’s? It is a beautiful love story coming true.
That same story can come true for you. He knows your name. He says it with the total and complete love of one who delights in you. Isaiah 43:1 says,
But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
He sees you and He loves you. Take out the words “Jacob” and “Israel” in that verse. Put in your name. How does it make you feel?
Look at these words in Romans 8:27-28 (MSG)-
“He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”
Will you cry out to Him? Will you let yourself hear Him call you by name? What would life be like for you if Jesus called you by name? What would it feel like to look up and see the sparkle in His eye? What would be like if the God of the universe picked you up and gave you the Hope you have been so desperately looking for?
He is waiting. Say the name Jesus. Say the name over and over and you will begin to hear Him say your name back. He will say it with an everlasting love and plans to give you a hope for tomorrow.
You are loved.
