“Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.”
~ Psalm 127:1
Last week, my Bible study group started up. My church is getting ready for our annual mission’s conference. There is lots of planning underway. However, all the planning in the world is worth nothing without God leading the way. You can get every little detail right and blow the whole thing if you never seek God. Believe me, I know. I can plan the best lesson in the world and hear nothing but crickets during our Bible study group time. However, if a thought hits me that seems crazy, ridiculous and outside of my comfort zone, I usually know it is from God. If I do it, I get to see the Holy Spirit move in a person’s life (which is my favorite part of leading a Bible study.) God is kind of into the crazy and ridiculous. Have you read the story of how Joshua took Jericho, Gideon won a battle, and Peter caught a ton of fish? The secret is in who they listened to and how they obeyed. May we be ever so humbled as we move forward in whatever season we are planning.
Here is a prayer I prayed last week over my church’s mission conference (called REACH). Substitute the word REACH with whatever you are planning. Pray, listen, and live in the crazy, ridiculous, outside-of-your-comfort-zone life God is calling you to live.
Unless You go before all we do, we might as well not do it. We pray that we follow behind You in all our plans. We pray that we will constantly check to make sure You are driving the bus. We pray that the plans being laid out now for REACH are Spirit-driven and not people-driven. May You take charge of this whole event. Thwart plans that are not from You. Open doors that speak Your name. May You blow the Holy Spirit wind of power through this entire weekend and light each soul on fire for Your kingdom. We beg this in Your name, Jesus.
